Students who are receiving TANF-funded CalGrant should have received an email from CSAC (California Student Aid Commission) that verifies they are eligible for CalFresh through their CalGrant funding type. The email should include an attachment like the following sample:

What's a TANF Funded CalGrant?
While TANF (CalWORKS in California) funded CalGrant A or B is listed on the student exemption, other forms of the CalGrant are not included in the student exemption. CalGrants funding comes from a lot of different sources, some of them include TANF, SLOF etc. There are some restrictions on how the fundings works inside CalGrant. For TANF, there are some specific requirements to use that fund. As such, proof of TANF funded CalGrant A or B is required in the application process in order to continue. The funding type will not be available until the funds have been disbursed.
How do I check if my CalGrant is TANF Funded?
If you have not received your letter, you can email or call CSAC (California Student Aid Commission) at 888-224-7268 or Studentsupport@csac.ca.gov and for a verification of their CalGrant funding type. Sometime CSAC will also send a mail to you if your CalGrant are TANF funded.
